Cardiac Electrophysiology

The heart has its own electrical system that controls its rhythm and keeps it beating regularly. If there are problems with the electrical system, it can cause abnormal heart rhythms, also known as arrhythmias. When having arrhythmias, patients will often describe feeling palpitations, short of breathe and even losing consciousness.

An electrophysiologist is trained to diagnose and treat these abnormal heart rhythms using a variety of techniques, such as medications, electrical cardioversions, ablation or device implantation. They use advanced tools and technology to study the electrical activity of the heart, identify the source of the arrhythmia, and determine the best course of treatment for each patient.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or have been diagnosed with an arrhythmia (which can be fast or slow), your doctor may refer you to an electrophysiologist for further evaluation and treatment. By working with an electrophysiologist, you can receive specialized care and treatment to help manage your condition and improve your quality of life.
